"ONE WAY OUT: THE INSIDE HISTORY OF THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND"

En palabras del propio Oteil Burbridge: "If you want to know the real deal, read Alan Paul".

“A certain side of me has always viewed myself as a folksinger with a rock and roll band,” says Gregg Allman. “I developed that perspective when I lived in Los Angeles and saw people like Tim Buckley, Stephen Stills, and Jackson Browne, who was my roommate for a while. All I had known was R and B and blues, and these guys turned me on to a more folk-oriented approach and it’s always stuck with me, even if a lot of Allman Brothers fans never realized it.”

“It’s not an easy decision to leave an institution like the Allman Brothers behind. On one hand, yes, it can fall apart at any moment and we’re going to be wondering what’s next.... On the other hand, if it was something that could be salvaged and get back on the right track and continue to make great, legendary, timeless music, then you want to be a part of that— especially if it could coexist with what you’re doing.” -Warren Haynes, explaining why he and Allen Woody struggled with whether or not to leave the Allman Brothers to focus on Gov’t Mule, which they did in 1997.

Dickey Betts: "It’s very hard to go freestyle with two guitars. Most bands with two guitarists either have everything worked out or stay out of each other’s way because it’s easy to sound like two cats fighting if you’re not careful. It was real, real natural how Duane and I put our guitars together. "

Red Dog: "The way Dickey and Duane played, it was ... just so human, so emotional, like letting things out of you. It was like making love, caressing each other, but anger coming out at the same time. It was a little raunchy here, a little nasty there, a lot of love here. "
